TRUST HOUSE WAIRARAPA BUSH 03 – 55 Wellington Selection XV

waiwgtnxvThe Trust House Wairarapa Bush team played a pre-season trial match against a Wellington Selection XV on Tuesday night in preparation for the Ranfurly shield. 400-500 spectators turned up to what was a pretty determined effort by the locals but the sharpness of the Wellington backs showed there was still a lot to do. The game was not a first class fixture though the game was played for the Jimmy Cotter Memorial Trophy. UPDATE: We can confirm the WBRU will be approaching the Wellington Rugby Union to make the Jimmy Cotter Memorial Trophy a regular fixture back on our calendar and make it a first class game with all the honour and respect such a game deserves. Scoring (official):  TrustHouse Wairarapa Bush – 03 : Tipene Haira 1x Pen

Wellington XV – 55 : Tau Mamea Try Vaea Fifita. X 3 Tries Johnny Bentley Try, 1 conversion. James O’Reilly .. Try Max Pearson .. Try Tu Umaga –Marshall. Try Wes Goosen .. Try Jackson Garden–Bachop x 3 Conv.

Dead Ball Charlie’s Highlights of the week

deadballGood to see the Jimmy Cotter Memorial Cup being played for again. Nice little work out for both teams and I think the locals were pleased with the overall performance. 35 more sleeps to the Ranfurly Shield – Rory and I have booked our accommodation. Had a bit of a think – trying to work out who is currently the most capped senior player for a club currently playing in the senior competition? Is it Ben Couch from Marist? Watched some Saturday morning rugby last weekend at Wairarapa College – couple nice little backs in the Wai Coll Colts team to watch out for in the future. While I was thinking about the oldest player – now that Baden Whale is retired – who has the mantle of this year’s oldest referee? Is it Goff or Reisy? “Our Rugby– Just Brilliant”
