Carterton laud their centurions

Carterton Rugby Club is honouring players who have played more than 100 games in their colours over the years.

Thirteen of the centurions – four of them still playing for the premier side – were presented with badges marking the achievement at a function organised by executive committee member Lionel King.

Guest speaker was an ex-local, Wayne Taylor, who has an impressive background as a strength and conditioning coach.

Taylor worked closely with former All Blacks coach John Mitchell and Carlos Spencer when they were in charge of the Lions Super Rugby side in South Africa.

More badge presentations are being planned for a past players day later in the season and an honours board on which the names of centurions will be recorded has been unveiled.

It has 35 names on it and those numbers seem sure to increase markedly as other ex-players confirm their playing stats in the maroon jersey.
