Wairarapa Bush Colts Competition
Final Day
City vs Central
Central defeated City in a tight tussle on Saturday to hold on to a 28- 24 victory.
It was a one sided first half with Nick Griffith and Zach Chandler from the Central forward pack leading the way showing determined ball carries and aggressive defence.
The Central set piece showed great improvement which allowed the back line to receive excellent front foot ball to strut their stuff. Nick Griffith popped up everywhere to finish with a hatrick of tries. Daryl Pickering and Utah Walker controlled the game extremely well for Central.
The score was 20 – 5 at half time.
The second half was a different City team it seemed. The standouts where Budda Mason and Nikora Ewe who really stood up, the Central boys started to drop off a few tackles. City brought it back within one point 25 – 24.
Central defended for majority of the second half and just managed to get down the City end to convert a well needed penalty.
The whistle couldn’t have come soon enough for the Central boys who showed great relief to just hold on. It was a great end to what was a successful tournament. The boys really enjoyed playing against players their own age. We hope this remains a yearly tournament in preparation for the U’19 Wai-Bush season.
They play the Wai-Bush B’s this Saturday before entering into their official competition against Wanganui on the 6th September then Horowhenua Kapiti on the 13th September finishing with East Coast/Poverty Bay on the 20th September.
