CIub’s junior ranks grow in number
WAIRARAPA NEWS, MAY 21, 2014

– Gladstone –
Gladstone is fortunate to have started the season with healthy Junior numbers again this year. Playing numbers at the small country club have swelled in recent years with 118 taking to the field this season.
Player retention is certainly a factor and with word of mouth bringing them in early Gladstone now have two teams in Under 6, Under B and Under 9,
The club hope to field full teams in U11 and U13 in the next couple of years, but in the meantime are grateful to have combined with Carterton – to form a large U11 squad – and continued their relationship with East Coast and Eketahuna – to field an Under 13 side.
A total of 10 teams, representing in every grader More than 20 parents attended the coaches course at Gladstone HQ before the school holidays and welcomed special guest Mark Rutene whom provided ideas and inspiration for the season.

The Drills learnt that evening were put in to practice the following day at the Annual Muster sponsored by Jenny Griffith at RIVAL Wealth – a great way to get the whole club together, to meet coaches and team mates and issue the playing kit.
The club is well supported by committed coaches, positive family on the sidelines each week and our many sponsors.
Special thanks to MTF – Bill & Tim Hintz – for supplying our U13 Training Shirts – and to the many grandparents who ensure those families with more than one player have an audience and a taxi.
Thanks also to the club’s committee of 16 who share the work it takes tn run any club and create the lovely community atmosphere that they are all so proud of — go Gladdy!
