Highlights from Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union Annual General Meeting held 9th May 2016 at the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union Headquarters.

The Wairarapa Bush Chairman Paora Ammunson announced a third consecutive annual surplus for the financial year ended 31 December 2016 of $10,351.00.

“While 2015 was a challenging year with the final instalment of the NZRU loan being repaid and the opening of Trust House Memorial Park, all things considered the board came very close to achieving its overall targets.

The on field performance of the union continues to be a major highlight with the Heartland and representatives performing well, player numbers continuing to increase at all levels of the game and that Trust House Memorial Park and the Wairarapa Region will be the host of the Hurricances Under 18 annual camp for the next 3 years.

Our rugby continues to grow due to the hard and dedicated work of our clubs, colleges and volunteers and it is very pleasing to see all clubs fielding teams in our senior competition”

“The board was also able to announce the NZ Rugby loan had now been repaid and the union has been given back to its clubs to determine its own destiny and a significant milestone has been achieved. Plans can now be started on the next 5 years working towards new goals to be set out around investing further in our stakeholders (clubs, colleges and player pathways).
“It is also satisfying to be rated now in the top 3 Heartland provincial unions based on the pre-determined targets set out over the last three years”
“Special mentioned was given to retiring board member Fergus Rutherford (Chair of Audit & Risk) and John Kirkup (NZRU Observer) for their efforts and guidance during the last 3 terms.

Tim Nathan was elected as the new Deputy Chair of the WBRU and Paora Ammunson as the Chair for his 4th year.

Jason Carruthers and Rebecca Sayer were appointed as Independent Directors for a 3 year term and Catherine Rossiter-stead and Paora Ammunson continue for another 2 years.

Tim Nathan and Dennis Dougherty were elected as Council of Club representatives.
