Message from Wairarapa Bush President, Doug Bracewell
Firstly, a very warm welcome to the East Coast team. It has been great to see them break their losing streak and string together a couple of well-earned victories.
Wairarapa Bush have had a difficult season with a number of injuries. Also, with the lengthening of the season it has been difficult to recruit players who are fit to play rugby at provincial level. If they can avoid mistakes in crucial areas of the park, then a favourable result is achievable.
I commend the Union for the initiatives they have put in place for the final game of the season. the inclusion of the Under 11 teams to play the Rippa Rugby format as the curtain raiser to the main game. Also setting up a vaccination site to deal with Covid 19 and free admission to encourage people to get vaccinated.
Throughout the lockdowns the Union has abided by the rules to ensure the safety of all New Zealanders.
We look forward to a great final for the 2021 season and wish all the best to the finalists.
Message from Wairarapa Bush Chairman, Jason Carruthers
On behalf of the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union, it is my pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to our guest unions – the Ngāti Porou East Coast Heartland team. We also extend a special welcome to our Patron, Life Members, sponsors, players, coaches, management, referees, and game officials.
I feel we take a collective sigh as we play this our last game for the regular season. We, by the skin of our teeth, on so many levels, have completed our season – perhaps not quite in the way we wanted – but we have been able to get a full season in, something some other unions have not. It is somewhat difficult when we finish the season with many players unavailable due to injury, this must have been a nightmare for our coaching team, but they have got there, and we honour them for this.
Congratulations to Tipene Haira for his for 50th cap, this has taken a while for him, but it is very well earned, and he has been a good ambassador for Wairarapa Bush.
We look forward to seeing you in the clubhouse after the game
“We are all in it for the love of the game”.
