Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union President

Today Wairarapa Bush hosts the King Country representative team along with the Wanganui B team. To both teams a hearty heartland welcome. I know that your officials, players and supporters will enjoy the Wairarapa experience and hospitality offered.

The main game sees two unions meet in what should be an epic encounter. King Country, formed in 1922, like Wairarapa Bush have had their time in the first division. King Country from 1992 -1996 and Wairarapa Bush in the 80s. The two unions can also lay claim to the two greatest All Blacks of all time. Colin Meads and Brian Lochore, so we have a lot in common.

Today both games will no doubt bring out many supporters from both sides. The Gravel Pit (Wairarapa Bush Supporters Club Rooms) will welcome all locals and visitors in their usual fashion.

The heartland have many good venues, but Trust House Memorial Park would surely lead the way. Today is the start of a campaign with much at stake, an early victory is always the goal.

To both our teams, play hard, play fair, and hopefully bring home the spoils.

Whatever the results, rugby will be the winner.

Welcome to King Country and welcome to Mitre 10 Heartland rugby for 2016.

On behalf of the Wairarapa Bush Board, its clubs, schools and many supporters – it is our great pleasure to welcome you all to Trust House Memorial Park. The home of Wairarapa Bush rugby.

The passion of the Heartland teams, and the quality of the overall competition, continue to capture the hearts and minds of those who follow this fantastic dimension of our national game.

But all the pre-season talk and hype is now today’s fish and chip wrapper. This competition can be ‘cut-throat’ and early season wins are absolutely crucial to success later on.

On behalf of the whanau of Wairarapa Bush rugby- we wish all the very best to our Farriers Wairarapa Bush squad and to all of our representative teams.

Make us proud boys!
