WE ARE BACK
2020 WAIRARAPA BUSH CLUB SEASON

RUGBY, MORE THAN A GAME
The 2020 club rugby season is back underway and firstly a massive shout out to all our clubs, players, coaches, administrators, and referees for their dedicated efforts during lockdown. To come out of lockdown and see the huge crowds at all pre-season games to date just goes to show how much as a community we value our sport.

On Wednesday I had the privilege of attending the powhiri for Charlie Kaka who has taken up the new role of Chief Executive of Trust House. As I listened to the speeches, his brother spoke of how Covid-19 had changed the world but more importantly everyone had to head home. By being made to stay home during lockdown we all re-connected with our families.

Our landscape has changed and so will our attitudes, it is fair to say, I do not think there is one person who didn’t find themselves an opportunity to sit back, relax and look at where they been and where they are going.

On Saturday, the Premier Moose Kapene Cup round starts and the Senior Reserve “What About You? North, South competition. This season let us celebrate the good on the field and friendships off the field.

‘WHAT ABOUT YOU?’ CAMPAIGN
In February 2020 the ‘What About You?’ campaign, aimed at rugby clubs and supporters, was launched at a special screening of the movie, ‘The Ground We Won’, which followed a rugby club’s fortunes over one season of rugby.

“The feedback and support since then had been amazing”, said Tony Hargood CEO of Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union, “and we will kick off the campaign for the rugby season, on the 4th of July at grounds around the Wairarapa”.
