2020 Representative Season

It is with great pleasure to announce the 2020 Farriers Wairarapa Bush representative season.

After the Heartland competition was postponed for 2020 due to COVID-19, the Heartland Unions have agreed to a series of representative games to celebrate the importance of grassroots rugby and highlight some of our traditional games.

The 2020 representative program will be four games including a special one-off game between King Country and Wairarapa Bush in Masterton to promote a new Cup to celebrate Sir Brian Lochore and Sir Colin Meads significant contribution to both our unions and Heartland Rugby. More details to be released later.

Wairarapa Bush are also the holders of the Bruce Steele Cup and this will go on the line in a three-way challenge between Horowhenua Kapiti and Wanganui.

Finally, Poverty Bay and the Jeremy David Cup is an important trophy between the two Unions which has previously been contested as a pre-season fixture and will be played in Napier.

The season preparation will kick off with the Sam Doyle testimonial match in Otaki on 5th September 2020, with Wellington and Manawatu as the curtain-raiser.

All Unions have agreed for 2020, that only club players will be eligible for selection and home referees will have the opportunity to officiate in these representative games.

2020 will be all about looking towards the future and provide several up and coming players with an opportunity to show their talents at the highest level.

A Wairarapa Bush Women’s team will get an exciting opportunity to play as they will be the curtain-raiser game against Wanganui on 17th October 2020.
