Media Release: 2021 Celebrations moved to 2022

Announcement of the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union 50th Celebrations for 2021 being moved to 2022.

The Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union Board met on Tuesday 31st August 2021 and considered a number of options with regards to the 50th Celebrations, which was to be held on the weekend of 10th and 11th September 2021.

With the continued uncertainty of COVID, and with no clear indication of when the Alert Levels would decrease to Level One, the Board believed it was prudent to postpone the 50th Celebrations to 2022.

On behalf of the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union, we share the disappointment with the whole of the rugby community, as we know many people were looking forward to the weekend.

We thank all the people who have purchased tickets for the dinner and the WBRU will be refunding in full monies paid. For people who have pre-ordered their 1971 jerseys and caps, the original delivery dates are still valid and we will notify you as soon as possible when the orders have arrived.

We would like to thank the Wairarapa Bush clubs, JAB , Colleges, Wairarapa Bush Referees Association, East Coast Rugby Union, Robert Algie Trust, PGG Wrightson, Wairarapa Times Age, Ambassador Catering, Wairarapa Bush Supporters Club, Kooga, Northco Insurance and Trust House who had got behind the weekend and we sincerely thank them for all their efforts.

The WBRU Board is doing everything possible to find a suitable date in 2022 and we will take the opportunity to re-visit the format of the celebration weekend in due course.

We are still very excited about the prospect of the Heartland Championship recommencing soon under Level Two.

We look forward to you all joining us again in person, when are back at Level One, and equally when the new date for 2022 celebrations is announced.
