Matchday Program – Copthorne Wairarapa Bush vs King Country
MATCHDAY PROGRAM
CHAIRMAN -WBRU
JASON CARRUTHERS
On behalf of the WBRU we would like to welcome you all to Trust House Memorial Park for another round of exciting Wairarapa Bush representative rugby. We have three teams in action here today with the U18 Boys taking on Wellington Maori, our Senior Women playing their King Country counterparts, the Trailblazers and the Copthorne Wairarapa Bush side headlining the triple-header against the King Country Rams.
The Copthorne Wairarapa Bush side return home after a tough trip across the hill last week, which I’m sure the coaching and playing group will look to bounce back from. This match will be the third clash for the Lochore and Meads Memorial Scroll, which we are current undefeated holders. I’m sure this clash will be worthy of these two legends of provincial and New Zealand rugby.
The Senior Women will look to bounce back from their narrow loss last week vs the Thames Valley Vixens, while the U18 team will build on their big win against Horowhenua-Kapiti. Our Barbarians team will be travelling up to Utiki Rugby Club to play their last game against the King Country Big Horns. They will be looking to close out their season with a win. The U16 Boys start their campaign, as the head up to Turangi to defend their Quad Tournament title from 2022 while the U16 Girls were due to play Horowhenua-Kapiti, however their opposition have had to default.
It’s very exciting to have so many of our teams on the paddock.
To all our major sponsors, I want to acknowledge and thank you, on behalf of the WBRU, for supporting us.
To all the fans, from near or far, your support is always welcome, either by attending games in person, watching a live stream or following along the updates on the various social media outlets.
See you all at the park.
PRESIDENT WBRU
BUNTER ANDERSON
A big welcome to King Country, it seems an awful long time since our Unions have met, so we’re looking forward to an exciting battle on the park.
Obviously we have a special relationship with King Country, forged through the bond of our two greats, BJ and Pinetree. In my opinion we may not have Heartland rugby now if it wasn’t for these two guys. They fought relentlessly with NZR to keep it going as an essential part of the rural community’s social base.
Special welcome to King Country Trailblazers; great to see Women’s rugby growing in the rural areas. Our women’s team is improving rapidly, so it should be an exciting curtain raiser.
After a brilliant win over Horowhenua-Kapiti, our men’s U18 team continue their preparation against Wellington Maori, keep up the good work boys.
We have two Wairarapa Bush teams involved today in away fixtures. Our Barbarians travel to Utiku Rugby Club in Taihape to take on King Country Big Horns. The U16 boys defend their title at North Island quad tournament in Turangi, and are looking promising again.
Thanks again to all the referees and ARs involved in our games today, you are unsung heroes, and play a massive role in making our game what it is today.
Also, thanks to our supporters club, you are the best in the country, the players appreciate your support, even if you feel they don’t always take your advice!!
Have a great day everyone
