Applications are now opened for the appointment of TWO Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union Independent Board members (3-year term).

Interviews and Appointments will be made by an Independent Board Selection Panel

Closing date for applications: 30 April 2025.
Appointments to commence from 11 June 2025.

The Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union is seeking applications for two new Independent Board Members in line with the Board and Governance Structures under the WBRU Constitution.

Current Chair Jason Carruthers is required to retire under the constitution after completing 3 terms and is ineligible for re-appointment. His 10 years’ service to the WBRU has been outstanding achievement given his leadership through COVID, the Silverlake Deal and the recent NZRU Constitutional Review.

Sharon Parker, currently an Independent Board Member and Chair of Audit & Risk 3-year term has now been completed and is eligible to be re-appointed for a new term of 3 years.

Under the WBRU Board Matrix of Skills the WBRU is looking for candidates with the following skills or experience.

  • Human Resource and Legal
  • Finance and Business Acumen

The WBRU has a strong balance sheet, turnover of $1M and a playing base of 2,500 registered players (2024) and is part of the NZ Rugby Union. WBRU plays a leading and significant contribution to the Heartland Unions and rugby in general.

The successful candidates will have a passion for Wairarapa Bush rugby and a clear understanding that rugby in the Wairarapa is successful due to the important contribution from our volunteer base. 

The WBRU Board places our members, supporters and administrators at the centre of all our decision-making processes.
