The WBRU is pleased to announce a 2.1% increase in registered players in 2019 (see table below).

The WBRU has seen a strong increase in teenage participants with women’s registrations on the increase and continued strong growth in the senior men’s competition.

Junior players remain steady from 2018 and the Under 15 College competition continues to flourish.

Carterton and Featherston rugby clubs both fielded a women’s team in 2019.

A new trend has been emerging over the last few seasons with an increase of older players returning to the game in the popular 12 team Senior Reserve competition.

Farriers Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union

The WBRU is pleased to announce coaches Joe Harwood and Deon Van Deventer have been confirmed along with Joe Nuku, Stan Wright (Scrum Coach) and Scott Cottier (Fitness) as part of the Heartland coaching staff for 2020.

Shay O’Gorman, Davide Castorina, Blue Hansen and Warren Reiri will continue as Manager and support staff.

The WBRU strategy of promoting local club players and players of origins into the Farriers Wairarapa Bush Heartland team has been re-confirmed as part of the WBRU long-term plans.

Important 2020 Dates:

  • Club Rugby Starts: 4th April 2020
  • Tui Cup Club Finals: 25th July 2020
  • WBRU AGM: May 2020 (date to be confirmed)
  • First Pre-season game Farriers Wairarapa Bush vs Hawkes Bay XV, Queens Birthday Weekend (Napier)
