Highlights from 50th Annual General Meeting held on 10 May 2021

Elections

  • Jason Carruthers was re-elected Chair of the WBRU
  • Sharon Parker was elected Deputy Chair of WBRU
  • Rex Playle and Shaun Draper were re-appointed as the two Council of Club board members
  • Robyn Cherry-Campbell and Brady Bingham were appointed as the two new Independent Board members by the Board Selection Panel.
  • Vicki Lee and Andrea Jackson retired after their 3-year term and did not seek re-election.
  • Doug Bracewell continues as President
  • Graeme Anderson continues as Vice President
  • Eric Kenny was reappointed as Patron the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union.

Annual Report Highlights

  • Special mention and thanks were given to all clubs and its members for their support and commitment through 2020 and COVID.
  • WBRU reported a surplus of $24,517 for the year ended 31 December 2021.
  • WBRU was pleased that it was able to cancel all affiliation fees to its members in 2020 due to COVID.
  • The impact of COVID was reflected in the on and off field key performance indicators for 2020.
  • Revenue dropped by 30%
  • Expenditure was decreased to match the reduced revenue and the shortened Heartland representative season.
  • While there was a drop in registrations for 2020, the current 2021 season has seen a resurgence back to pre-Covid numbers, in particular with junior playing numbers.
  • It was announced that in January 2021, WBRU was now debt free and had repaid all loans and the $100,000 contribution towards the re-development of Trust House Memorial Park in 2015.
  • Rebecca Mahoney was congratulated for her contribution to playing and refereeing rugby at the highest level during her career.
  • Baden Whale and Roddy McKenzie were acknowledged for their contribution to rugby and the community at large.

 A presentation was made to the members on the NZRU and the Silver Lake private equity investment.
