It is with great pleasure to announce Jamie Williams as the Head Coach of the Copthorne Wairarapa Bush Heartland team for 2025.
Paddy Gough and James Goodger will join Jamie as his assistant coaches for the campaign. Together, the coaching trio brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a deep commitment to lifting the performance and pride of Wairarapa Bush rugby.
Jamie has been a proud resident of the Wairarapa for the past six years and previously served as the Assistant Coach in 2022 under Head Coach Mark Rutene. Most recently, Jamie led the Wellington Centurions as Head Coach and has an impressive record of success, including four Jubilee Cup victories in the Wellington competition with Old Boys University.
Chief Executive Tony Hargood said, “It is great to have Jamie back on deck, this time as Head Coach. Jamie brings a wealth of knowledge and has a proven pedigree in winning rugby. Having both Paddy and James as his assistants further strengthens the team. While James Goodger will work closely alongside Jamie and Paddy, there is no doubt that James’s mana, work ethic, and leadership will bring something special to the team.”
Jamie expressed his enthusiasm for the role:
“I’m incredibly honoured and excited about the opportunity to lead the Copthorne Wairarapa Bush team. This region has a proud rugby heritage, and I look forward to contributing to that legacy. Together with Paddy and James, we’ll focus on creating a well-prepared, disciplined squad that thrives under pressure.
For me, success is about more than just winning—it’s about building a competitive team in every match and representing Wairarapa with pride, discipline, and heart. It’s about creating a squad that earns respect—not just from our opponents but also from our supporters and the wider community.
We will focus on developing players who take pride in wearing the jersey and creating an environment where they feel valued, can grow as individuals, and take ownership of their development. Through strong preparation and a focus on the fundamentals, We’re committed to building a team that embodies these values every time we take the field.”
The Copthorne Wairarapa Bush team looks forward to an exciting 2025 campaign under Jamie’s leadership.
