The 1992 season was disappointing for Wairarapa Bush with only three wins from 13 games. By winning two championship matches the union just managed to stay in the second division for 1993. Heavy defeats were inflicted by first division teams Wellington and Hawke’s Bay and by England B and there was not much joy for coach Roger Dee following severe trouncing’s from South Canterbury, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu, Taranaki and Counties. The best effort was the winning of the Thames Valley game.

As is the case with most struggling teams, Wairarapa Bush did not fare well as a unit but there were some talented players in the side. Former All Black Marty Berry stood out in midfield and was the team’s most dangerous back. James Shirkey played some useful games on the wing and showed improvement as the season progressed. Mike Foster, who had last appeared in 1990, showed signs of his old form, While Greg Gray and Neil Foote were reliable five-eighths. Veteran halfback Bernard Lett again impressed with his clean service.

Of the forwards John Hutchins and Vernon Boyce were a hard-working pair of locks and there were three promising newcomers, Dean Bassett, Andrew Langley and Daren Guildford, in the loose forward department.

Higher honours went to:
New Zealand XV: Berry
New Zealand Divisional XV: Berry, Hutchins.
